Supporting our Armed Forces: SCC and the Armed Forces Covenant

We are proud to announce SCC’s continued commitment to supporting the Armed Forces Covenant, a program based on social responsibility that British businesses can sign up to, demonstrating their dedication to the welfare of military veterans and active serving military reservists in employment within the UK.

The Armed Forces Covenant aims to ensure that those who have served in the armed forces, as well as their families, are treated fairly and are not disadvantaged in the workplace. It acknowledges the sacrifices made by servicemen and women and seeks to provide them with opportunities and support as they transition into civilian life.

On 23 June 2023, an important event took place at IBM’s London offices, where our key partner publicly reaffirmed its commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant. Rigby Group’s founder and chairman, Sir Peter Rigby, who is an Honorary Group Captain in the RAF, was invited by IBM to attend the ceremony where the covenant was re-signed, along with SCC’s IBM Alliance Director Vaughan Jones.

IBM’s UKI CEO Nicola Hodson re-signed the Armed Forces Covenant, which was countersigned by Major General James Roddis, DSO MBE and Director of Strategy and Strategic Command.

As part of our engagement with IBM and the Armed Forces Covenant, SCC is actively involved in programs aimed at supporting military veterans. IBM has played a pivotal role in training thousands of veterans to become skilled cyber analysts, partnering with an organisation called ‘SaluteMyJob’, founded by Andrew Jackson, which assists veterans to transition to civilian life by providing them with training and access to programs that enable them to use their skills in new roles.

SCC’s involvement in this initiative has been pivotal as we continue to explore opportunities for veterans to be trained through the SCC Academy. By collaborating with IBM and leveraging their expertise, we aim to create a forum that facilitates the seamless transition of veterans into meaningful careers.

Being a signatory to the Armed Forces Covenant showcases SCC’s dedication to social responsibility and support for British industry and businesses.

At present, SCC holds the Silver Award in the Armed Forces Covenant. However, our aim is to continually improve and progress in our support for the armed forces and veterans, ultimately achieving the prestigious Gold Award, which IBM has already achieved.

Our partnership with IBM and the commitment of our leadership team further strengthens our dedication to the Armed Forces Covenant and demonstrates how the private sector can actively contribute to the well-being of those who have served our country.

As we move forward, we are determined to expand our initiatives and provide even greater support to our military veterans. Together with IBM and other partners, we will continue to create opportunities for those who have served in the armed forces, helping them build rewarding and fulfilling careers in the civilian world.
