The biggest IT trends for the rest of 2019

What technology trends are we set to see making appearances in businesses up and down the UK this year? We predict what will be the biggest and most impactful technologies.

Chatbots

Chatbots have been around for a little while now but they’re set to become more intelligent and more emotionally sound. With the help of advancements in Natural Language Processing (NLP), AI-based chatbots will be able to understand behaviour and feelings. Some industry experts even believe NLP will shake up the entire service industry, as we replace more humans with chatbots.

5G Networks

Likely to be amongst the top business tech trends for 2019 is 5G technology. You may be thinking that 5G is just a little faster and more reliable than its predecessor, but it’s actually much more than that. In fact, 5G is set to change the way devices connect to the internet, as well as each other. It’s going to be extremely fast; 20 gigabits per second, and with extremely low latency. This means you’ll see very little delay or lag when you do things on your device.

 Internet of Things

The Internet of Things (IoT) is greatly changing the way people and businesses interact with technology. The IoT market is very likely to continue its upward course in the market as every day more devices are put online. Experts believe the growth will be felt mostly in the retail and health sector with Forrester Research predicting that with continued growth, IoT will become the backbone of customer use. Gartner predicts the number of connected things in use will hit 14.2 billion in 2019, and grow to 25 billion by 2021.

Hybrid Cloud

Yet more organisations and businesses will realise the benefits of moving to a hybrid cloud model of computing. Considered to be the future of cloud computing, hybrid cloud brings together the advantages of private and public provisioning models. By allowing workloads to move between private and public clouds as computing needs and costs change, hybrid cloud gives organisations greater flexibility and more data deployment options, keeping your business truly on the ball. Bags of benefits come from a hybrid cloud solution.

Fog computing

The global fog computing market is expected to reach USD 617.3 million by 2025 – according to a new report by Grand View Research – and it is likely to emerge as the next generation of cloud computing. It is becoming more important for companies as an alternative to manage the flood of data coming in. Fog computing extends computing infrastructure to network edges to provide computation, networking, and storage services between end devices and data centres; its services can be deployed anywhere in the network.

Tip of the Iceberg

Don’t expect these five technologies to be the only ones to gather momentum this year. An abundance of tech will make its mark in 2019, with artificial intelligence set to see a huge surge in adoption as one of the most important IT trends.   Watch this space.
