SCC staff collect over 140 pairs of shoes to donate to the Shoe Aid Charity
With the help of our staff, SCC has donated over 140 pairs of shoes across our UK offices to the Shoe Aid charity this month. We are proud to be able to support a charity that works to fight footwear poverty and shoe waste in landfill. With the current rising levels of poverty and homelessness in the UK, charities like this need our help more than ever. SCC is passionate about giving back to the community and helping to reduce the negative impact on the environment. SCC Marketing Director, Tim Kenny volunteered to assist with the donation saying; “Shoe Aid does amazing work and SCC is proud to support the charity reduce footwear poverty and reduce footwear waste and its impact on the environment. It’s only a small act but when people come together across a business the size and scale of SCC, together we can make a significant impact. We will keep supporting Shoe Aid as one of many charity partners, as SCC continues to deliver on its promise to give back to people and the communities in which we serve.” Chairman of Shoe Aid, Andy Hughes said “There is a place where thousands of men, women, and children wear footwear that is not fit for purpose. And at least 280,000 homeless people (10,000 living on the streets) have no shoes or shoes that are falling to pieces, and that place is the UK. “Shoe Aid is a national charity based here in the UK who source and supply free footwear through a collection and distribution network, so no child or adult need go without shoes. In September 2021 Shoe Aid have once again launched STEPTEMBER. We want to raise the issue of footwear poverty and get people to focus on the challenges and impact it has. In September there are four Tuesdays, each of these days we are asking people to organise events to raise awareness of footwear poverty, that’s four opportunities to take part, everyone can take part in one or all of the days, which we are calling SHOESDAYS. “This year alone we have donated over 20,000 pairs of footwear and that figure is likely to continue to grow. Every item of footwear that Shoe Aid collects and donates can change lives, not just now but in the future too. Repurposing unused or used footwear has a positive impact on the environment – less waste, less footwear ending up at landfill and taking anywhere from 50 years to 1000 years due to materials needing to biodegrade.”
