SCC laptop donation tackles loneliness through digital inclusion
SCC donates 70 refurbished laptops to leading loneliness charity WaveLength
European technology solutions and services provider SCC has partnered with WaveLength to help tackle loneliness through digital inclusion by donating 70 refurbished laptops.
WaveLength has been the UK’s leading national loneliness charity for more than 80 years, and has successfully helped to reduce loneliness through the provision of technology.
WaveLength works at a local level through a network of partners on the ground to deliver help, comfort and contact to those most in need. This approach effectively ensures that every piece of technology that is donated is tailored to meet the demands of the beneficiaries.
Loneliness and isolation has increased significantly since the pandemic and is exacerbated by the digital divide. This laptop donation by SCC is the latest example of SCC’s commitment to supporting the digitally excluded by removing barriers to technology.
As part of its broader commitment to digital inclusion and giving back to communities, SCC has also partnered with the Good Things Foundation, a charity which works to improve digital capability for all, via its on-site digital training facility the SCC Academy.
WaveLength is equally committed to advancing digital equity as a key component of its mission to reduce loneliness. By providing technology and fostering digital literacy, WaveLength aims to ensure that everyone, regardless of age or background, can stay connected and engaged in today’s digital society.
Dennis Badman, SCC UK CEO, said: “We’re honoured to be supporting such a wonderful and life-affirming charity that shares our vision to reduce the digital divide and end digital exclusion for all. WaveLength does amazing work in the community and, as one of Europe’s largest technology companies, we’re proud to help relieve loneliness and isolation by providing digital access to those who need it most. We are passionate about people and technology, and we hope this donation will have a positive impact on people of all ages and backgrounds experiencing loneliness that is amplified by the digital divide.”
Tim Leech, WaveLength CEO, commented: “WaveLength is committed to supporting people of all ages who have become lonely and isolated for a variety of reasons. This donation will make a significant difference to the lives of the individuals we assist, helping them reconnect with family and friends, access critical online services and meet their social needs. We are very grateful for the support of SCC and we hope to continue working with them collaboratively on these important initiatives.”
