The release of Android Lollipop in November 2014 marked the beginning of Android’s shift from a primary consumer focus to enterprise enablement. Although the latest Android release — dubbed Lollipop — has much to delight consumers, it arguably has more significance for enterprise customers. Not only does Lollipop include stronger security features and new APIs for enterprise mobility management (EMM) providers, it also lays the foundation for Android for Work — a Google program that enables secure, containerized app deployment to a range of Android devices through an ecosystem of EMM providers. Together, Lollipop, Android for Work and MobileIron deliver the biggest enterprise enhancement for Android Devices since the OS was first introduced.
