Apple Plans to Enter Electric Car Market

Apple is reported to be accelerating its efforts to build an electric car with a target shipment date set for 2019, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal. The company’s first models are expected to need a driver but there are also long-term plans to produce driverless vehicles.

The report said that Apple’s is expected to apply the expertise it has in areas such as battery technology, sensors and hardware-software integration, as it developed the Apple iPhone, in to the next generation of electric cars. Google, Uber and other tech companies have also been reported to be working on automated vehicle projects.
