Certifi-gate: Check Point exposes vulnerability threatening millions of Android devices
Check Point have highlighted a previously unknown vulnerability in Android that affects hundreds of millions of devices from major manufacturers such as LG, Samsung, HTC and ZTE.
Their mobile research team has revealed details about “Certifi-gate” – a new threat that leaves millions of Android devices exposed to cyber criminals.
Disclosing their findings during a briefing session at Black Hat USA 2015 this week, they explained how Certifi-gate gives attackers unrestricted access, enabling them to steal personal data, track device locations and turn on microphones to record conversations, among other breaches.
In the absence of any credible workaround, all affected devices are vulnerable to these kinds of attacks the moment they are taken out of the packaging.
Check Point have introduced a Certifi-gate device scanner app, however, as well as Mobile Threat Prevention – the highest level of security to detect and stop advanced threats like Certifi-gate on iOS and Android devices.
