HP Sells Security Software Division TippingPoint

TransactionHP recently agreed to a $300m deal to sell HP TippingPoint to strategic partner Trend Micro.

This comes as part of a major restructure, as HP plans to split into two seperate business: HP Inc and Hewlett Packard Enterprises.

TippingPoint has worked with Trend Micro over past years combining their resources to create security software, such as their Intrusion Prevention System (IPS).

In light of the deal, Trend Micro promises to “deliver dynamic network defense by combining next generation intrusion prevention with market-leading breach prevention”.

HP first acquired TippingPoint as part of their $2.7bn acquisition of networking equipment supplier 3com back in 2010.
