HPE’s Top 5 Things You Shouldn’t Miss From Last Quarter
From building the world’s first solar-powered supercomputer to three strategic acquisitions last quarter, we have much to be proud of at HPE. We invested in high-growth areas, forged new creative partnerships, and strengthened our product lines.
Here’s a look back at some of the highlights from the first fiscal quarter of 2017.
1. HPE made three strategic acquisitions in the quarter
In January, in a deal to build on our Hybrid IT strategy, we acquired SimpliVity, expanding our offerings in sof
tware-defined hyperconverged infrastructure as well as on-premises cloud.
We announced our acquisition of Cloud Cruiser, a top provider of cloud consumption analytics software, which will make our Flexible Capacity offering stand out even more in the market and support our Services strategy.
And we announced our plans to acquire Niara, a cybersecurity company that develops User and Entity Behaviour analytics software for network security expanding our capabilities on the Intelligent Edge.
2. We passed a significant milestone in future technology
In December, we unveiled a successful prototype of The Machine, our latest step in creating a computing platform that puts memory, not processing, at the centre to produce efficiency and scale that is not available today.
3. Actually, more than one milestone
Last quarter we built the world’s first solar-powered supercomputer, in partnership with The University of Texas. It’s called Hikari, and right now it’s running biology applications that will help fight the Zika virus. It’s one of the most energy-efficient supercomputers ever made, paving the way for more innovation in sustainable energy solutions for computing. You can expect to see much more in the high performance computing space, where SGI and our existing high performance computing business make a very powerful combination.
4. We strengthened our products and our partnerships
In February, we introduced one of our most significant 3PAR flash storage innovations to date, the next-gen 3PAR Operating System, which provides a foundation for hybrid IT as all-flash becomes the new standard.
In December, we announced HPE Synergy with HPE Helion CloudSystem 10, the industry’s first private cloud running on composable infrastructure. The new solution gives organisations the ability to operate a single IT environment on-premises that supports both traditional applications and private clouds on shared infrastructure.
In late November, Aruba announced several new security solutions, ecosystem partnerships and switching products designed to accelerate the move to the digital workspace, while addressing some security concerns in IoT.
The University of Texas wasn’t the only great partner we worked with last quarter. We will begin selling solutions from two of our Pathfinder portfolio companies, Mesosphere and SafeBreach, bringing their cutting-edge products to our customers globally.
5. We were recognised for responsible business practices
HPE received the inaugural Stop Slavery Award from the Thompson Reuters Foundation, which honours companies who take concrete steps to block unfair labour practices from their supply chains.
Our Chief Diversity Officer, Brian Tippens, was also recognised for his work in creating a diverse environment at HPE.
We made great strides in our strategy last quarter and empowered our customers to transform their industries. The steps we are taking to strengthen our portfolio and invest in our ecosystem are setting us up to win long into the future.
