IBM Reports Cost Savings from Rollout of Apple Macs
IBM has announced that they are saving significant amounts of money by deploying Apple Macs across their business as opposed to traditional PCs.
This statement comes a week before the scheduled announcement of new Macs, with IBM claiming to have seen savings of up to $535 per Mac over four years.
90,000 IBM employees now use Macs, which is 60,000 more than 2015. This has been attributed to better OS software, meaning updates are less frequent than Windows. IBM’s VP of Workplace as a Service, Fletcher Previn said: “We have to manage the Mac environment 104 fewer times a year than PC.”
After giving IBM staff the choice between using a PC and a Mac, 73% of the workforce opted for Macs, of which, only 3.5% has ever needed to call the company help desk, in stark contrast to 40% of PC users. In 2015, a team of just 25 staff was able to support 30,000 Macs. Previn added: “Macs are the standard at IBM in Japan and PCs are the exception.”
Employee surveys at IBM have also recorded a 10% year-on-year increase in employee engagement, which has been attributed to IBM supplying better tools for IT, reporting a 91% user satisfaction from Mac users.
Previn also claimed: “I can confidently say that every Mac we buy is making and saving IBM money.”
IBM aren’t the only tech company openly praising Apple technology for us across the enterprise, Cisco has openly claimed that Apple deliver the “world’s most innovative mobile tech”, with Deloitte adding that Apple products are “essential to the modern workforce”.
