IoT Connected Devices to Triple by 2021
Juniper Research estimates the number of connected IoT devices, sensors and actuators will reach over 46 billion in 2021 – a 200% increase from 2016.
Industrial and public services will see the highest growth, averaging over 24% annually. However, Juniper also noted that both providers and end-users will face challenges when considering large-scale IoT deployments and that the security threat landscape for IoT is widening – especially in the consumer sector, which it described as ‘woeful’.
Key highlights from the study:
- More than 46 billion units in-use by 2021
- Major projects face complexity challenges
- Security threats abound but situation in the consumer space is ‘woeful’
