IoT Market Growth to Accelerate

The Internet of Things (IoT) market will grow by around 30% next year Gartner told delegates at its recent European Symposium. The analyst says that around 6.4 billion devices of all kinds will be connected globally, rising to 20.8 billion in 2020 when we can expect 13.5 billion consumer devices to be web connected and 7.2 billion IoT devices in the enterprise arena. Two kinds of IoT devices will be used in commercial organisations, the firm said; generic devices that will be deployed in multiple industries, such as light bulbs and air conditioning units, and vertical-specific devices that are found in particular industries, such as specialist medical equipment.
