“IoT will be seen everywhere by 2020” says IHS
The Internet of Things (IoT) is being talked about regularly at conferences now with industry observers predicting that it will make technology truly pervasive in our everyday lives.
The latest prediction, for research firm IHS, is that shipments of smart IoT products designed for use in the home will skyrocket from 1 million worldwide in 2014 to a colossal 223 million units by 2020.
But this is only when major goods, such as fridges, washing machines and other ‘brown goods’ are included; when smaller appliances, such as coffee machines and electronic toothbrushes are counted, the total soars to 700 million.
