New Report Predicts Sales of Smart Wearables Will Value $14 billion in 2016

CCS Insight has predicted the total revenue generated by wearable technology this year will hit $14 billion with smart watches and fitness trackers expected to account for half of 123 million wearables shipped in 2016.

A separate prediction from Gartner forecasts that 274.6 million wearable electronic devices will be sold worldwide in 2016; an increase of 18.4% in 2015, and generate revenue of $28.7 billion in 2016. Of that, it says, $11.5 billion will be from smartwatches.  Gartner predicts 48% growth in smartwatch adoption between 2015 through 2017 but says usage levels will remain well below that of smartphones.
