Premium Ultra-Mobiles and Gaming Offer Growth and Profit Prospects

DataDespite a declining PC market, the ultra-mobile premium segment is on pace to achieve revenue growth this year, according to Gartner. The analyst estimates that this segment will reach $34.6 billion, an increase of 16% from 2015. In 2019, Gartner forecasts that ultra-mobile premium will become the largest segment of the PC market in revenue terms, growing to $57.6 billion. Sales will be driven by the PC replacement cycle and customers upgrading to 2-in-1s and touch-enabled devices. Gartner also said that the gaming PC market offers good profit opportunities. While this is a small market with only a few million units sold a year at present, ASPs are significantly higher, ranging from $850 for an entry-level gaming PC notebook to $1,500 for a premium model.
