Sales Up as Solid State Disks Being Adopted in More Servers
Solid state disks (SSDs) are becoming an increasingly popular choice amongst designers of server system as well as mobile devices, according data published by the UK-based IT market research firm, CONTEXT. Unit sales of OEM server SSDs sold through Western European IT distributors increased by 59% year-on-year in June 2015, according to the company.
Revenues were up 48% over the same period with SATA- or SATA-600-based devices claiming over 79% of the market. The highest demand was for SSDs with a capacity of 480GB and either SATA-600, SATA or SATA M.2 interfaces, and unit sales of these more than doubled in June 2015.
Sales of equivalent 120GB SSDs were up by 90% in the same month and 240GB SATA and SATA-600 SSDs performed even more strongly, with 94% growth in unit sales year-on-year. HP held a market share of 82.6% in June 2015 (compared to 77.2% in June 2014).
