Samsung Puts UHD TVs at the Heart of its SmartThings IoT Ecosystem

SamsungUHDTVSamsung has stepped up the pace in the rapidly-developing Internet of Things market by making its family of smart TVs compatible with its SmartThings ecosystem for the smart home.

All Samsung Ultra HD televisions now have IoT Hub technology, so they connect with, control, and monitor more than 200 other compatible devices including lights, locks, thermostats, cameras, speakers, appliances, SmartThings sensors, and more.

First demonstrated at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show, they will soon be generally available and enable users to put smart TVs at the centre of their smart home ecosystem, as well as managing connected devices with the mobile app. All they will need to do is plug a free SmartThings Extend USB adapter into the TV to gain access and control to more than 200 compatible devices. In addition, they will be able to get notifications of what’s happening in and around their home though connected cameras and event alerts.
