Windows 10 Most Widely-Used Enterprise OS Ever

Windows-10Research shows uptake of Windows 10 has been “significantly more rapid” than Windows 7

Gartner Technology research has identified that Windows 10 is set to become the most widely used enterprise operating system ever.

Reports published by Gartner claim that 50% of enterprises will have initiated deployment of Windows 10 by January 2017. This highlights a significantly quicker transition than when Windows 7 was released in 2009.

The report claims that Windows 10 “is poised to become the most widely installed version of Windows ever” for all users, whether private or commercial.

Gartner has identified the fact that users of Windows 7 will stop receiving technical support in January 2020 as one of the reasons so many are moving to Windows 10. They also highlighted trends towards tablets and mobile devices as a key factor.

The report reads that “the net result is that many enterprises are planning to begin pilots for Windows 10 in the first half of 2016, and to broaden their deployments in the latter part of the year, Gartner expects that at least half of enterprises will have started some production deployments by the beginning of 2017, with an eye to completing their migrations in 2019.”

Microsoft revealed that Windows 10 was downloaded 14 million times within its first 24 hours of availability. That figure soon rose to 75 million within a month.
