How TIP Group Took Control of the Cloud with SCC

TIP Group (TIP) is Europe’s leading provider of full-service equipment solutions, specialising in leasing and rental with a growing footprint that now spans over 130 service locations in Europe.

As the business expanded, its technology estate needed to keep up. They weren’t starting from scratch, having moved their infrastructure into Microsoft Azure back in 2020. But like many early cloud migrations, after getting into the cloud, the next step is taking full advantage of it.

The Challenge

On the surface, TIP’s cloud setup was in good shape. They’d done the hard part – migrating to Microsoft Azure. But behind the scenes, it was clear the cloud environment wasn’t delivering as much value as it could. The migration had been a lift-and-shift exercise — enough to get things up and running, but not enough to unlock the full potential of the platform. Services were sometimes hard to scale, commissioning new environments could be slow, and they were missing the data needed to make fast, informed decisions.

TIP’s cloud estate was expanding rapidly due to significant business growth. The tools they had gave a view of spend but, without real-time insights, it was difficult to get real value from what they were using.

End-user computing also required attention. The process for shipping and returning devices wasn’t working as smoothly as it needed to, particularly at the end of lease cycles. This resulted in unexpected costs and inefficiency for TIP employees and their IT team.

To accomplish their goals, TIP was looking for a partner with scale, technical depth and a forward thinking mindset that could help them get more visibility, consistency and control.

The Solution

TIP was looking for a partner who could help them evolve. SCC introduced its managed cloud service, supported by SCC Vision™, a tool designed to give greater visibility over cloud usage and spend. TIP found this particularly valuable, as they could now track cloud costs in near real-time, identify areas of overspend, and make informed decisions about where to scale up or down. Importantly, SCC sought input from TIP to drive continuous improvement of the product, making the service feel tailored and not off-the-shelf.

Alongside the cloud piece, SCC also took over end-user computing services. The process of shipping out devices, handling returns, and managing leases was tightened up and simplified. That reduced delays, improved the user experience, and avoided unnecessary overcharges.

SCC addressed one of the more immediate operational challenges: the IT Service Desk. SCC took over day-to-day support and introduced a more scalable service model. That meant faster response times, better handling of complex issues, and a more consistent experience for users across the business.

Throughout the engagement, SCC took a collaborative approach. The overall relationship is flexible, collaborative and built on mutual trust.

The Outcome

Since partnering with SCC, TIP has seen a steady shift in how their IT services support the business. Customer service has noticeably improved, with fewer escalations, a better user experience for TIP users, and improved cost control.

Crucially, TIP now has greater visibility over its cloud estate. With SCC’s Vision™ platform in place, TIP has the data they need to stay in control of their cloud estate – reducing waste, making smarter decisions, and getting real value from the platform.

SCC Vision was a significant factor when choosing SCC’s cloud managed cloud service. The tool has allowed us to manage our cloud spend more effectively, and we feel more in control of our cloud estate.

Andy Wyatt, TIP CIO

More than anything, SCC helped TIP move from using the cloud, to maximising it to its full advantage. And as TIP continues to grow, their IT estate is better equipped to scale with them. Together with SCC, they’ve laid the foundations for what comes next — a smarter, more agile digital future that grows with the business.
